Much of the UK's oil and gas infrastructure is operating well beyond its original design life. Corrosion under insulation, degraded coatings, failing trace heating and tired fabric quietly erode integrity long before they show up as a failure. BESAT works across upstream, midstream and downstream assets — processing facilities, terminals, tank farms and pipeline infrastructure — keeping them protected, compliant and available.
This is hands-on work, and it is what we are built for. Our directly-employed insulation, scaffolding and access, protective coatings, mechanical and electrical, and heat tracing teams deliver the fabric maintenance and integrity works that protect these assets — surveying, stripping back, repairing and reinstating to a standard that lasts, under our own supervision and quality control.
Behind the trades sits a full engineering and services business: multi-discipline engineering, brownfield modifications and upgrades, procurement and specialist equipment supply, project and construction management, commissioning, and quality and SHEQ management. Clients can take a complete engineered package under one point of responsibility, call on individual trades under a framework or call-off, or use our teams to support shutdowns, turnarounds and decommissioning campaigns.
All works are delivered within site permit-to-work, isolation and hazardous-area regimes, with process-safety-aware planning and documented traceability throughout — because on these assets, the quality of the work and the evidence behind it matter equally.

Thermal, cryogenic and acoustic insulation with metal cladding — including removal, inspection support and reinstatement as part of corrosion-under-insulation strategies.
Scaffolding & Access
Scaffold design, erection, inspection and dismantling — including tank, vessel, structure and confined-space access on live and shutdown facilities.
Protective Coatings & Fabric Maintenance
Surface preparation, blasting and protective coating systems to tanks, vessels, pipework and structural steel, with planned fabric maintenance campaigns that arrest deterioration.
Mechanical & Electrical
Pipework, valve and equipment installation, static and rotating equipment works, electrical and instrumentation installation — including hazardous-area work to DSEAR and ATEX.
Heat Tracing
Electrical and steam trace heating design, installation, fault-finding, testing and maintenance for freeze protection, viscosity control and process temperature maintenance.
Shutdown, Turnaround & Decommissioning
Planning and preparation, outage management and multi-trade mobilisation for shutdowns — plus access, stripping and specialist support to decommissioning campaigns.

Multi-discipline engineering and design, process and pipework modifications, tank and terminal infrastructure works, and inspection-led integrity support on live assets.

How We Work
Directly employed, directly supervised, directly accountable.
Fabric maintenance and integrity work is only as good as the operative doing it and the supervision standing behind them. We directly employ our insulation, scaffolding, coatings, mechanical, electrical and heat tracing teams and manage them ourselves, so competence, briefing, workmanship and quality control stay with BESAT rather than dispersing across a subcontract chain. Scopes are planned around permit-to-work, isolation and hazardous-area requirements, with inspection and test plans and documented traceability from survey to handover. Clients use us in whichever shape suits the asset: a fully engineered package under one point of responsibility, framework and call-off trade support, or surge capacity for shutdowns, turnarounds and decommissioning.
